Doctors often apply pressure
Marina, 36 years old, was also surprised when her doctor talked to her about a Caesarean section. «I was afraid he would mention it because of my age. But there were no problems during my pregnancy and the last scan showed that the baby was in the right position. «The only concern was that the baby had not put on much weight and was only 2.5 kg,» she said. She was in her ninth month when her waters broke but by the afternoon of the next day the labor pains still had not begun. «The doctor said if the pains don’t start soon, we will have to do a Caesarean section.» «Why don’t you induce the pains?» I asked. «It will put the baby under stress and I don’t want that,» he replied. Hours passed and nothing changed. «I did not want to have a Caesarean section, not because I was afraid of the pain but because I wanted to give birth naturally, to have the experience. I know this is better for the baby.» In the end she gave birth naturally and the midwives in the hospital said it was one of the easiest births they had ever witnessed. For the three-bed room in the hospital and the doctor’s fees she paid 5,000 euros.
