Voters find creative ways to mark ballots

A poem, pornographic pictures, chewing gum and a fig leaf are among some of the items that vote counters found inside ballot boxes after Sunday’s election, it was revealed yesterday. A voter in Thessaloniki crossed out the names of all the candidates standing for New Democracy and PASOK and placed both sheets in the ballot box. Another voter on the island of Evia decided to write the words of the national anthem on his or her ballot form before casting the vote. Spoiled or blank ballot papers accounted for a total of 2.67 percent of all the votes cast on Sunday, according to the Interior Ministry. This means that more than 195,000 of the 7.3 million Greeks that voted decided to mar their ballot form or cast a blank vote.
