Nikaia hospital found in ‘wretched’ state
Health and hygiene inspectors have labeled the State Hospital in Nikaia a place of «wretchedness rather than an area for therapy» after checks on the site revealed a range of problems. The inspectors noted in their report is that there are rubbish bins without lids in the kitchens, the storage area for meat does not have any drains, so blood collects on the floor of the refrigerated room, while the area where food is received was found to be dirty. The inspectors noted that the bathrooms used by kitchen staff did not meet hygiene standards. Three stray dogs were also found on the hospital grounds. Piraeus Prefect Yiannis Michas said the situation was «inconceivable.» The director of the hospital, Panos Papaioannou, told Kathimerini that he had not read the report but would put right any problems.
