Serial robber on tour of Greece’s courtrooms
Until recently he was Greece’s most wanted criminal, but now convicted robber Nikos Palaiocostas is retracing his steps under tight police security to stand trial for the numerous raids he is alleged to have carried out. A court in Kozani sentenced him to eight years in jail yesterday for a robbery at a local branch of Emporiki Bank in 1995. His brother, Vassilis, who is on the run, is also alleged to have taken part in the raid. On Monday, a court in Larissa sentenced Nikos Palaiocostas to 21 years in jail for a 1992 bank robbery. Palaiocostas has refused a defense lawyer and has accepted his sentences, saying, «I am not afraid of the court or the sentence.» On Monday, Palaiocostas will appear in court in Kastoria and a day later, exactly one year after his arrest, he will go on trial in Thessaloniki.
