The new parliamentary speaker, Dimitris Sioufas (r), is congratulated by Interior Minister Prokopis Pavlopoulos (c) and Economy and Finance Minister Giorgos Alogoskoufis (l) after being voted to the position by 158 of the 300 MPs in Parliament yesterday. The former development minister called for unity and cooperation between the five parties in Parliament. Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis is due to unveil his party’s policy program in the house today, prompting two days of response from opposition MPs before a vote of confidence on Sunday night.
