Son who killed abusive father released on bail

A 19-year-old man who was arrested in Nikaia in February for stabbing his father to death was released from custody on bail yesterday after a Piraeus court accepted that the 54-year-old man had been abusive to his family. The teenager, whose has simply been referred to as Costas by authorities, will have to appear at his local police station once a month and has been banned from leaving the country. Costas had been arrested on a charge of murder but told authorities that he stabbed his father four times during an argument. Police said that the 19-year-old called them after the incident and officers found him crying outside his father’s house. The teenager’s mother had died of anorexia a week earlier and Costas told authorities that he held his father responsible for her death.
