Two people killed as shots fired in taverna

A farmer fatally shot a 46-year-old man with a hunting rifle in a village near Mesolongi, western Greece, late on Thursday and accidentally killed a second man sitting near the first victim. Police said yesterday the suspect, a 55-year-old farmer, walked into a restaurant in the village of Katohi and fired four shots at the 46-year-old victim in a bid to settle their differences. One of the bullets hit a 62-year-old butcher who was sitting at a nearby table with his friends. The butcher, who did not know the suspect, was hit once in the spine, according to police. After the attack, the suspect escaped the scene in his car and hid in a nearby home. He contacted police and gave himself up a few hours later, authorities added.
