President Karolos Papoulias addresses the 34th session of UNESCO’s General Conference in Paris yesterday. Papoulias extolled the humanitarian values that led to the creation of UNESCO. But he added, ‘We still have many conflicts… with huge sums spent on arms, money that could be used to fight the scourge of poverty.’
