Two murdered in gun attack on Athens cafe

Police were looking yesterday for two men suspected of opening fire on a cafe frequented by Albanians in central Athens with an AK-47 assault rifle in a raid that left two people dead and four injured. A 31-year-old man was killed instantly and a woman, aged 44, died in the hospital a few hours after the attack on Sunday night in the city’s Omonia district. The owner of the cafe and three other customers were injured in the hail of bullets but were treated and out of danger in the hospital. Authorities did not name any of the victims but said that they found small packets of heroin and hashish in the dead man’s pockets. Police believe the killings were drug-related. The two gunmen were wearing hoods and walked toward Larissis Station after the shooting, according to witnesses.
