Overcome with admiration, Culture Minister Evangelos Venizelos (r) and Athens 2004 President Gianna Angelopoulos-Daskalaki gape at the 7th century BC child’s doll from ancient Thebes that provided the inspiration for the Olympics mascots – Phevos and Athena. As of yesterday the terracotta artifact, which Venizelos referred to as a ‘prehistoric doll, ‘ is on display at the National Archaeological Museum.
