Disabled people in wheelchairs are stopped by police on their way to the prime minister’s office in central Athens yesterday during a demonstration. Greece’s disabled have severe trouble getting about the city on their daily business as few buildings are fully accessible to the disabled, while the sidewalks are normally blocked by parked cars or motorbikes. Among the financial demands made by the disabled yesterday is a higher social security benefit and an allowance for heating oil.
