Umbrellas and balloons held by protesting nurses and social workers are seen in central Athens yesterday. Hundreds of social workers who help disabled and elderly people took part in the demonstration, which passed in front of Parliament, as several brief bursts of rain fell on the capital. The short downpours did not deter the protesters, who were demanding six months of wages that they claim the state has not paid them yet. The march ended peacefully and no arrests were reported by police.
