‘Velvet revolution’…
Justice Minister Sotiris Hatzigakis (left) is seen exiting Maximos Mansion yesterday with the new president of the Supreme Court, Vassilis Nikopoulos (right), after the pair met with Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis. Hatzigakis said he is trying to instigate a ‘velvet revolution’ in the judiciary through a series of changes, which include the early retirement of a number of judges who are deemed inefficient or unable to carry out their duties because of health problems. Hatzigakis said he was relying on Nikopoulos to deliver a justice system that people can trust.
