The Epiphany national holiday…

A group of young men brace for a cold leap off a pier at the port of Nafplion, central Greece, yesterday after Bishop Iakovos of Argolida threw a wooden cross into the water during a traditional ceremony. Orthodox priests across the country led similar ceremonies to mark the Epiphany, a national holiday, at riverbanks, seafronts and lakes. According to religious tradition, whoever retrieves the cross will enjoy good luck and health for the entire year.
