School, home, tuition center – even at primary school level – foreign language classes for the overwhelming majority of pupils (96.5 percent according to surveys), computer, ballet, swimming, piano and dance lessons. An endless list of activities fill up the day of pupils, and many of them do not even have a say in what they do. Leisure time for children has been slashed and they have no opportunity to be carefree. Studies show that 8 percent of children have no leisure time at all, while 70 percent of pupils at primary schools in Athens who were questioned for a survey by the National Center for Social Research stated that they have between 30 minutes and a few hours of free time per day.
