Thessaloniki’s port…

Dockers rattle the gates of the central entrance to Thessaloniki’s port yesterday. The dockers began a two-day strike yesterday to protest government plans to privatize the management of container terminals and their facilities at Greece’s two main ports: Piraeus and Thessaloniki. Several hundred stevedores gathered outside the port in Thessaloniki but riot police used tear gas to disperse the crowd. No injuries or arrests were reported. The government argues that allowing private investment will increase the capacity of the ports.
