Listed but dilapidated

History: The imposing 1,590-square-meter Jugendstil apartment building at 61 Patission Street was constructed in 1925 by architect Costas Kitsikis. The Seamen’s Pension Fund (NAT) bought it in 1950 and the Culture Ministry listed it for preservation in 1989. It was leased by a tuition center till 1999. Condition: Bad. Damaged by the 1999 earthquake, fire and damp. Future: An earlier renovation study was not implemented for lack of funds. NAT will soon announce a competition for an investor to repair the building and use it for cultural purposes.
