Demand for seasonal staff

Every region draws up a proposal for a given number of seasonal workers based on applications from farmers and livestock breeders and other sectors and submits it to the Employment Ministry. Workers come on a half-yearly or yearly permit on the basis of bilateral accords with Albania and Bulgaria. In Central Macedonia alone, this year there are 23,000 applications for seasonal workers, most of whom will come from the latter two countries. About half are destined for farms in the prefectures of Pella and Imathia. In Western Macedonia, there are 2,643 applications for 200, the majority from Kozani (984) and Kastoria (815). In Eastern Macedonia and Thrace there are over 2,800 places available, mostly in the prefecture of Kavala.
