Police nab kidnapper in Thessaloniki snare
Police have detained a 55-year-old man in Thessaloniki for allegedly masterminding the abduction of a man he claimed owed him 10,000 euros, according to authorities. The suspect is believed to have instructed three men to kidnap the middle-aged victim on Thursday and then held him hostage in an apartment in the area of Toumba, where he was beaten. The kidnapper then contacted the victim’s son and arranged for him to hand over a payment of 9,000 euros on Friday in order to free the victim. The son arranged to meet the kidnapper in an operation monitored by the police in which the authorities stepped in and arrested the suspect. A manhunt for the other three men allegedly involved in the incident, along with a fourth also believed to have been involved in the abduction, has been launched.
