Striving for a better, more just society

Consumption, individuality and having a good time prevail in modern society and in today’s globalized world young people are shaping their own values. Therefore, the family, friendship and love are the supreme values they hold above all others. Moreover, young people are worried about their futures and believe education is an on-going process that should continue throughout life as a way of acquiring further qualifications. Concern about the environment and the future of humanity are also important issues that concern young people, as well as social action. On the other hand, the secularization of modern society and a scorn for politics have affected young people, reflected in their desire for a better society. * Laura Maratou-Alibranti is a senior researcher at the National Center for Social Research (EKKE).
