Driver shot dead in ‘road rage’ attack

An argument between a motorcyclist and a motorist near central Athens yesterday afternoon ended with the car driver being shot dead in his vehicle, police said. The 40-year-old man was pronounced dead on arrival at Aghios Savvas hospital after being shot on busy Acharnon Avenue at around 4 p.m. It was not immediately clear how many times the victim had been shot. Officers did not identify the car driver, apart from confirming his age and that he was Greek. No description was released of the motorcyclist. It is thought he got into an argument with the driver over who had right of way at the junction of Acharnon Avenue, which runs from the city center to the suburbs, and Epirou Street. Officers said that the suspect pulled out a handgun and shot the driver before speeding off.
