Police bust express wedding service

A group of Russian women have been accused of being involved in express weddings as a means of securing residency permits in the central Greek towns of Larissa and Karditsa, police said yesterday. The Russian women all married Greek nationals just after arriving in the country as well as having applied for work permits as waitresses at police stations in the two cities, authorities said. However, checks on the residential addresses given by the women, aged between 20 to 29, found them to be fake, sparking a police investigation into the suspected racket. Police did not release details on any financial amounts involved in the international scam which is believed to have taken place between January and February of last year.
