Bus driver caught after fleeing fatal crash site

Police arrested a 45-year-old bus driver late on Monday for allegedly speeding off from the scene of an accident involving the death of a young man, according to authorities. The suspect is believed to have been driving a bus on Marathonos Avenue in the Glyka Nera area, northeastern Athens, on Sunday when it collided with a motorcycle. An 18-year-old male passenger on the bike was killed in the collision, while the driver, aged 17, was seriously injured. Witnesses told police the driver did not stop at the accident scene but sped off after turning off the vehicle’s lights in a bid to avoid being detected. It was not clear what type of bus the suspect was driving. The 17-year-old youth is receiving treatment at a local hospital and doctors have described his injuries as being serious.
