Serious concerns about the security of personal data
At a special conference organized in early April by the Transport Ministry, legal, computer and telecom experts and members of the judiciary discussed the growing legal problems linked to the development of new technologies. «One serious problem is that companies create digital identities on the Internet that accompany us on our cell phones and give us free access to services without us having to give a password and user name every time. The companies claim those systems are secure, but we have serious reservations,» Professor Alexandros Sideridis told Kathimerini. A German court recently ruled that the regulations by which the European directive for storing transaction data on telephones and the Internet were incorporated into law were unconstitutional, for reasons relating not only to security but also the development of their services. Add to that the justifiable concerns of the experts about the link between mobile telephony and cancer and it is clearly time to address some serious questions.
