Feet-washing Easter ceremony…

The Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem, Theophilos III (center), splashes holy water over worshippers after conducting the traditional feet-washing Easter ceremony in front of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem’s old city yesterday. The church, believed to be the site of the burial of Christ, will tomorrow attract thousands of worshippers for the ‘holy flame’ ritual. A torch, lit from the flame in Jerusalem, will be brought by plane to Athens tomorrow afternoon.
