Defense Minister Yiannos Papantoniou sits in the cockpit of a twin-seat F-16 fighter jet yesterday at the Lemnos military airport, after an hour’s flight over the Aegean. Papantoniou – whose visit to the northeastern Aegean island was largely symbolic, as Turkey contests Greece’s right to use it as a military base – accused Ankara of ‘greater aggressiveness’ in its violations of Greek airspace.
