Bus service gets rough ride in opinion poll
Buses are the most popular mode of public transport in Athens but also the one that commuters complain the most about, according to a poll conducted for the Athens Urban Transport Organization (OASA). Figures released yesterday show that 64 percent of passengers think the service offered by the city’s buses rates from very poor to average. According to the same survey, seven out of 10 commuters use the bus network at some point, while 45 percent use it as their main mode of transport. Sources said that the Transport Ministry has commissioned a study to examine the popularity of night buses and whether there needs to be a change in their itinerary during the night. The researchers are also looking at ways to change bus routes so that more commuters are diverted onto the metro and Athens-Piraeus electric railway (ISAP).
