Recycling of cars…

Secondhand cars sit in squashed piles at a vehicle-recycling plant at Oinofyta, north of Athens, yesterday. More than 30,000 vehicles are recycled every year at plants across Attica, according to local authority figures. Greece has sought to boost its performance in recycling, on which it currently trails the 15 original member states of the European Union. According to Athens municipal authorities, the recycling of cars has increased by several hundred tons this year. The recycling of household waste has also improved but is still far short of European Union targets.
