Fire forces evacuations on Cyprus
Residents of six villages in the foothills of the Troodos mountain range, in southwestern Cyprus, were forced to flee their homes yesterday after a large forest fire broke out in the area. The blaze was brought under control last night. Ten firefighters were hospitalized for smoke inhalation and minor burns. It was not immediately clear what caused the fire, which burned some 40 kilometers from the Cypriot capital Nicosia.
