PASOK leader George Papandreou (right) speaks to Luis Ayala, the secretary-general of Socialist International (SI), which began its 23rd congress in Athens yesterday. Papandreou is the president of SI. Under the banner ‘Global Solidarity: The Courage to Make a Difference,’ Papandreou used his opening speech to launch an attack on the media and its lack of objectivity, saying that many media groups operate for the good of certain interests rather than with the aim of providing people with reliable information. He also highlighted the problem of climate change.
