Six held for stoning drug addict to death

Six drug addicts alleged to have tied a fellow addict to a tree near Mount Parnitha, north of Athens, in March and stoned him to death, were remanded in custody yesterday. According to police, the six suspects abducted 34-year-old Panayiotis Kantaras on March 1 and took him to the foot of Mount Parnitha where they tied him to a tree before pelting him with stones until he died. The suspects are believed to have been paid to carry out the attack by a drug dealer wanting to punish the victim for allegedly stealing 250 grams of heroin from him. The 34-year-old allegedly stole the drugs, with the help of a friend, used a small amount and then sold the rest. The dealer was informed of the alleged theft by his son, police said. Officers have yet to trace the dealer.
