Man beheads girlfriend on Santorini

A 31-year-old chef was in custody on Santorini last night after beheading his girlfriend and dog and injuring three other people in his bid to escape arrest for a crime that shocked the popular island. Details of what exactly happened remained sketchy last night but the unnamed man is said to have argued with his 25-year-old girlfriend at their home in the village of Vourvoulos before chopping her head off. The 31-year-old then paraded his girlfriend’s head through the village streets as residents looked on in disbelief. A police officer approached the man in a bid to convince him to give himself up but the chef lashed out at him with a knife. The policeman suffered injuries to his hands. The suspect then took the officer’s patrol car and drove off. He was pursued by more police and, in his bid to get away, he knocked over two women doctors who were on a motorbike. Both women suffered serious injuries and were transferred to the KAT Hospital in Athens late last night. Police finally managed to stop the suspect by blocking the road and firing three times into the air. Officers also shot the 31-year-old in the leg before taking him into custody. He was later taken to the Thira Medical Center for treatment. «It obviously seems that something was not right with him,» said Thira Mayor Yiannis Roussos. «The couple was known and had never shown signs of anything untoward.»
