20-kilometer walk…

Women taking part in the 20-kilometer walk pass the Olympic Stadium in Beijing yesterday during heavy rain. Greece’s Athanasia Tsoumeleka (second from left) was not able to repeat her heroics of four years ago when she was the shock winner of the gold medal. Instead, Tsoumeleka came 10th, ironically clocking a faster time than she did in Athens. The 26-year-old set a new national record of 1:27.54. Meanwhile, Iordanis Paschalidis and Constantinos Trigonis, who had been in contention for a medal in sailing’s tornado class, came 10th.
