Amateur flyers safe after bumpy landing

Three members of a Thessaloniki flying club had a lucky escape on Saturday as they got away with only relatively minor injuries after having to perform an emergency landing in their single-engine plane. The airplane enthusiasts were forced to bring the Cessna aircraft down near a firing range in the Polykastro area of Kilkis in northern Greece after the plane developed problems. They were airlifted to the hospital by helicopter. Two of the passengers suffered only scratches and bruises, while the third broke his leg and will need to undergo an operation today or tomorrow. The other two are being kept in the hospital for precautionary reasons. By last night authorities had not completed their investigation into what went wrong with the amateur flight that resulted in the forced landing.
