Heat and wind spark wildfires
A delivery driver on a scooter races past a forest fire on the road to Epidaurus, near the Corinth canal, west of Athens. There were several large fires yesterday, including one at Gytheion in the Peloponnese. Another area of the Peloponnese, Messinia was also troubled by a wildfire, as was the region of Fokida in central Greece. No homes or lives were threatened. Authorities in Athens have been put on alert for the possibility of more fires today.
