Moscow assuages Greek fears about Caucasus
Russia’s Ambassador to Athens Andrei Vdovin addressed journalists yesterday after Greece’s Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis expressed ‘concern and worry’ over Moscow’s recognition of Southern Ossetia and Abkhazia as independent states, a move Athens fears could set a precedent for the Turkish-occupied north of Cyprus. ‘We do not see any parallel between the situation in the Caucasus and that in Cyprus,’ Vdovin said.
