Woman walks to Thessaloniki on new knees
Cleopatra Markopoulou, a 62-year-old woman recently fitted with artificial knees, holds up the Greek flag yesterday after completing a 600-kilometer walk from Athens to Thessaloniki. Markopoulou, a Greek from South Africa, was welcomed to the northern city by Prefect Panayiotis Psomiadis (right). The 62-year-old did the walk in 28 days, stopping off every evening at towns along her route, to show that fitness can be regained despite illness.
