Boy, 15, slapped with drug-dealing charges
A 15-year-old pupil at a night school in central Athens has been charged with dealing drugs to his fellow students after police found half a kilo of cannabis in his possession. The 15-year-old, stopped near central Omonia Square for a routine inspection, allegedly told police that he was a user himself and that some of the drugs found on him had been destined for personal consumption. According to police, the dealing of drugs to schoolchildren usually occurs around the school premises, rarely on the grounds, and is usually done by adolescent non-students, often immigrants, who approach the pupils as they leave school grounds. According to the Therapy Center for Dependent Individuals (KETHEA), the average age at which Greek youngsters start using drugs is dropping. KETHEA says children as young as 12 have approached its specialists for help.
