Transport strike frustrates Athens commuters

Two women assess their options after finding the entrance to an Athens metro station shut yesterday. A four-hour work stoppage by staff on the metro, urban electric railway and tram led to thousands of commuters taking their cars, causing gridlock in central Athens, and thousands more boarding crammed buses. Today a series of work stoppages by railway employees will cause delays on intercity trains.
