Staged a demonstration to protest…

Police decked out in riot gear form a barricade yesterday outside the entrance to the Economy Ministry in central Athens, where employees of four textile factories in central and northern Greece staged a demonstration to protest unpaid wages and planned staff layoffs. Workers from the four factories, belonging to businessman Thomas Lanaras, clashed with police at the end of last month when they staged a similar rally outside the ministry to demand an injection of funding that has reportedly been pledged by the state. Many of the employees say they have not been paid for five months.
