Culture Ministry contract workers protested…

Riot police were yesterday deployed at the National Archaeological Museum, where a small group of Culture Ministry contract workers protested while President Karolos Papoulias and his Cypriot counterpart Dimitris Christofias were inaugurating an exhibition of antiquities from Cyprus. There was a strong police presence outside the museum to prevent any disturbances as the ministry employees continue their action against the government’s refusal to grant them permanent jobs. The workers are due to stage a protest at the entrance to the Acropolis today but will not prevent visitors from entering as they had done previously.
