Protesting the low price of farm products…

Dairy farmers dance around a milk urn on a replica coffin outside the premises of the Agricultural Development and Food Ministry in central Athens yesterday, protesting the low price of farm products. The protest began after Minister Sotiris Hatzigakis cut short talks with the farmers, who had been visiting the capital from northern Greece, citing obligations in Parliament. The producers subsequently staged a protest outside Parliament. They are protesting the low retail prices of milk and lamb ahead of Orthodox Easter, when lamb is traditionally roasted on the spit, and have threatened to stage road blocks if their demands go unmet.
