Traditional roast on Easter Sunday…

Livestock breeders near the town of Argos, in the Peloponnese, unload trucks full of lambs yesterday in preparation for an annual illegal sale of the animals to last-minute shoppers seeking a cheap deal for the traditional roast on Easter Sunday. The price of lamb this year at Athens’s central Varvakeio meat market ranged from 6 to 12 euros per kilogram, roughly the same prices as last year. A team of prefectural inspectors conducted checks on meat traders at the market this week to ensure that lamb being sold as Greek has not been imported and that the meat is fresh enough for safe consumption.
