Outbreak of three fires…

A firefighting aircraft drops a tankful of water over a blaze that broke out at the foot of Mount Parnitha, north of Athens, yesterday. The fire, which had been extinguished by early afternoon, occurred just a few kilometers from the heart of the national park that was razed in a massive blaze in June 2007. Unseasonably high temperatures, accompanied by strong winds, led to the outbreak of three fires this week: at the foot of Mount Parnitha, on the island of Evia and in Troizina, near Nafplion, in the Peloponnese. None of the blazes caused any injuries though widespread damage has been reported.
