155 cubic meters of fuel…

An operation launched at the end of last month to pump out dozens of tons of fuel from the wreck of the Sea Diamond cruise ship that sank off Santorini in April 2007 has been completed successfully, the island’s coast guard said yesterday. Some 155 cubic meters of fuel were pumped out of the wreck using special suction pipes, they said. Some 300 tons of leaked fuel had been collected from the sea in the months after the sinking. Another 150 tons of leaked fuel were removed from the sea immediately after the sinking.
