Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis (left) visited President Karolos Papoulias at the Presidential Palace in Athens yesterday for talks that focused on the problem Greece faces with illegal immigrants. ‘Now a European Council decision officially deems illegal immigration a problem affecting the whole Union,’ Karamanlis told Papoulias. The premier was referring to last week’s pledge by EU leaders to exert more pressure on Turkey to honor a bilateral pact with Greece for the repatriation of migrants.
