Aircraft helps douse blaze in Thebes
The shadow of a water-dropping plane is seen on the ground yesterday as smoke rises from a fire outside Thebes, north of Athens. Fanned by strong winds, the blaze threatened the village of Moschopodi but had been brought under control by the afternoon. The fire is believed to have been started by a farmer burning branches. Other fires in Anavyssos, Haidari and Ano Glyfada were extinguished before they could wreak major damage.
