Arson spree targets parties
A barrage of seven firebomb attacks targeted seven political party offices in various parts of Attica early yesterday, causing widespread damage but no injuries. The attacks, carried out using homemade gas canister bombs and Molotov cocktails, took place between 3 a.m. and 3.30 a.m., suggesting a coordinated spree. The first attack targeted the offices of ruling New Democracy (ND) in Koukaki, central Athens, the second was on the offices of main opposition PASOK in Votaniko, the third on ND offices in Drapetsona, near Piraeus, the fourth on the ruling party’s premises in Kaminia, the fifth on its offices in Halandri, the sixth on PASOK’s seat in Goudi and the seventh on the offices of far-right Popular Orthodox Rally (LAOS) in the northwestern suburb of Aghioi Anargyroi. The pre-dawn attacks followed a similar bloodless but destructive hit on the offices of a LAOS deputy in Koukaki on Monday night. There had been no claim of responsibility by late yesterday.
