A man cycles across an emptier-than-usual road in central Athens yesterday. Thousands of residents left the city last weekend as more and more people take their summer vacations. There was some backed-up traffic on the Athens-Lamia national road due to roadwork but no major problems were reported. Drivers are advised that repaving of the road surface between the Metamorphosis junction, north of Athens, and the Afidnes toll posts will continue until August 18. People traveling by plane experienced few major problems. More than 1,700 flights departed and arrived at Athens International Airport over the last three days.
