Mother suspected in strangling of children
A 35-year-old woman was being treated in critical condition in a hospital in Athens yesterday after allegedly strangling her two young children to death and then attempting to commit suicide by throwing herself in front of a car. The woman, who has not been named, was taken to the Tzanneio Hospital after being struck by a vehicle on busy Iera Odos in western Athens. She suffered serious head injuries in the incident. Police were called to her house in Elefsina, west of Athens, when a neighbor found the bodies of the two children, a girl aged 8 and a 10-year-old boy, under a sheet on a bed in the property. Officers said they notified the children’s father but did not give any further details about the family or what may have caused the tragedy.
